LATEST NEWS FROM VIDEO MANIFESTO

Our Grupo Pensar project at Complexo do Alemao, offer open classes to community youth for job training,  citizen rights and resources to choose a more productive life overcrime through the art of filmmaking.

On saturday, the 19th of March, our Grupo Pensar, started filming a short documentary to tell the story about their community, "The history of the alleys" (A historia dos becos).

Drug trafficking offers slum youth things that society does not: status; money and access to goods; as well as social ascension; in a world with sub-par education and no real opportunity.

You see young boys with enormous weapons which you would normally expect to see in the war in Iraq.

You see people selling drugs out in the open and you see a situation where the governance is one which is what they call the parallel power, meaning not the state but basically run by the drug gangs.

The interesting thing is not that people are ever able to cope with it, but that it becomes normal, it becomes the reality there and people are no longer shocked by what they see.

Video Manifesto exists to transform the lives of disadvantaged young people and their communities by providing them with training in vocational audiovisual skills, post -training support and educational and recreational activities.

We are an UK registered charity that are providing a better future through the power of education and training to youngsters in the slum.  We believes that the art of filmmaking will provide these youths with an outlet in which to express themselves  - a chance to manifest themselves.
